Redigaffi 2018 Toscana IGT, Tua Rita

Redigaffi 2018 by Tua Rita winery is a powerful Toscana IGT red wine made from 100% Merlot grapes grown in inland Maremma on the “Colline Metallifere”, iron-rich hills. The soils are mainly made up of clay, the ideal type of soil for high quality Merlot grapes with powerful fruity flavors and the right acidity to maintain the balance on the sip. The first vintage was the 1994.

This wine has been matured in new oak barrels from 18 to 20 months, then it remains in bottle for some months before release on the market. There are only around ten thousand bottles produced per year.

The wine has a deep ruby color with delicate garnet hints, even though it has been matured for a long time in small oak barrels. The aromatic bouquet is pretty complex, with powerful fruity notes that characterize the nose of the wine: dark cherries, dried plums and blueberries are the three most easily recognizable aromas. Moreover, the wine has elegant notes of dark spices, such as cloves, and tertiary aromas of tobacco and eucalyptus.

The sip is characterized by the smooth texture of the wine and the long-lasting fruity aromas, enhanced by the pleasant acidity that also balances the sip. The tannins are fine-grained and perfectly integrated in the wine structure.

The Redigaffi 2018 by Tua Rita winery is a powerful red wine with outstanding ageing potential. In fact, the high concentration of this wine allows the consumer to wait for more than twenty years: the wine will easily maintain its fruitiness while developing elegant tertiary notes of tobacco, forest floor and licorice.

The 2018 vintage won a lot of international prizes, including 97 points score by Robert Parker Wine Advocate and Top 100 Wines of 2020 by James Suckling.

By Franchetti Wines, the IWCB will have in its portfolio:

Passopisciaro, Franchetti Terre Siciliane IGT 2017

The Franchetti Terre Siciliane IGT 2017 is an elegant red wine produced from Nerello Mascalese grapes grown near the small area of Passopisciaro, located in the Northern part of the Etna volcano. This wine was produced from Petit Verdot and Cesanese d’Affile grapes, a blend between an indigenous grape and a variety from Bordeaux, making this wine a sort of “Suer-Etna”. This wine is the flagship of the Passopisciaro winery, located in the Northern part of the Etna volcano, the one that has the lowest level of rainfall and that is the most protected from strong winds. Monica Larner said that this wine is the son of the genius of Andrea Franchetti, the only one that dared to plant Petit Verdot on the Etna.

The wine has a deep ruby color with some purple hints, even though it was matured in oak barrels for a long time. The aromatic bouquet represents a perfect balance between dark fruits aromas and balsamic hints provided by the Petit Verdot. In fact, the wine displays both dark fruits aromas, such as plums and blueberries, and balsamic notes of rosemary and eucalyptus.

The sip is characterized by the high tannins that provide the perfect balance to the overall smooth texture of the wine and powerful dark fruits aromas on the aftertaste.

This wine has a long ageing potential that reaches twenty years. In fact, the powerful structure of the wine will slowly develop year after year into a smoother wine, with velvety tannins but still powerful dark fruits aromas on the aftertaste.

Tenuta di Trinoro, Sancaba Toscana IGT 2018

The Sancaba 2018 by Trinoro estate is an elegant red wine produced with Pinot Noir grapes grown in a single vineyard located in San Casciano dei Bagni, a small iconic village located in southern Tuscany. Sancaba 2018 underwent fermentation in both stainless-steel tanks and barrels, then matured for six months in oak barrels followed by fourteen months in concrete vats. We only have 1.5 l magnum bottles which will provide the best environment for a long aging.

The wine has a pale ruby color with some garnet hints, typical of oak aged Pinot Noirs. The beautiful color of the wine is followed by the elegant aromatic bouquet of ripe red fruits, like redcurrants and red cherries, combined with strong hints of dark spices and a delicate mushroom note on the finish. The sip is characterized by an interesting balance between a smooth texture, mainly due to the high alcohol content, and the high acidity and tannins that contrast the structure of the wine and creating an elegant aftertaste.

Tenuta di Trinoro, “Palazzi” Toscana IGT 2018

“Palazzi” is a full-bodied red wine produced from 100% Merlot grapes grown in inland Tuscany, South of the city of Montalcino. This is the second flagship of the Tenuta di Trinoro winery,a powerful red wine aged in barriques for several months and that represent the incredible high quality of the red wines produced in the Southern Tuscany area.

The wine has a deep ruby color, really elegant to see swirling the glass. The nose of this wine displays the typical characteristic of elegant Merlot grapes grown in a warm climate: concentrated aromas of both red and dark fruits combined with dark spices notes and elegant tobacco notes on the finish. All these beautiful aromatics can be easily found on the aftertaste, after a sip of wine. The texture of the wine is smooth and the alcohol is high. However, the high acidity and astringency brought by the tannins perfectly balance the mouthful, making the mouth ready to another elegant sip.

The “Palazzi” 2018 by Tenuta di Trinoro is an elegant full-bodied wine that has an incredible ageing potential that exceeds twenty years in the bottle. Moreover, the wine will benefit of a minimum of eight to ten years of bottle ageing in order to better integrate its tannins and develop elegant tertiary aromas of licorice and fine herbs, like rosemary. This is an elegant Merlot wine that has the ability to perfectly communicate the terroir which it comes from.
