ARNALDO CAPRAI, MACONDO, MOCALI, SALVATORE MOLETTIERI, CASTELLO DI PERNO JOIN THE ITALIAN WINE CRYPTO BANK

Five more prestigious wineries, with some extraordinary wines, have joined today the Italian Wine Crypto Bank (IWCB), the first and only Wine Bank based on blockchain, cryptocurrencies and digital assets. They are: Arnaldo Caprai with “25 Anni” Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG 2016,  Macondo with Bianko 2019, Mocali with Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016, Molettieri with Taurasi DOCG Vigna Cinque Querce 2013 and Castello di Perno with Castelletto Barolo DOCG 2016 (please see the wines’ presentations below).

They are just the latest prestigious Italian wineries that joined  IWCB in recent weeks, which include Allegrini, Banfi, Baracchi, Casa Raia, Castello di Querceto, Elena Fucci, Giuseppe Cortese, Il Carnasciale, Incontri, La Magia, Macchie Santa Maria, Mazzei , Planeta, Sordo, Tasca d’Almerita and Tenuta Impostino.

 

Arnaldo Caprai, “25 Anni” Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG 2016

Arnaldo Caprai’s Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG “25 Anni” is a wine that symbolizes not only a winery, but shows all the potential of this Umbria’s DOCG. Powerful, rich and full, characterized by a tannic structure of rare compactness,it is a red capable of extraordinary elegance.

The wine ages for 24 months in French oak barriques and rests in the bottle for a further 8 months.

With an intense, very deep ruby ​​red colour, “25 anni” at the nose displays complex aromas of ripe black fruit, such as blueberries, cherries and plums, combined with hints of spices (vanilla, cloves and juniper). The tertiary aromas are still developing and delicate notes of dry leaves and leather stand out on the finish.

In the mouth the wine unleashes its great structure, with a soft texture and powerful fruity aromas balanced by the tannins, which clean the palate and leave an elegant bitter aftertaste on the finish. Balsamic and dark spice hints dominate the aftertaste, offering very complex aromatic sensations to the palate.

The Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG “25 Anni” 2016 can age for at least 20 years and its tertiary aromas will evolve towards even more perceptible hints of coffee, licorice and dark spices. The truth is that no one can really predict what intriguing, wonderful, aromas can express a wine with such a great structure that can be kept in the cellar even for decades.

 

Macondo, Bianko 2019 Marche IGT

Bianko 2019 is produced by Lorenzo Catasta’s Macondo winery and Although produced by a relatively young winery, this wine has become already a cult, collecting major awards and accolades (Doctor Wine 97/100 for Bianko 2016; 5/5 Bibenda for Bianko 2017), and is showing that can even improve with agingThe Bianko 2019 by the Macondo winery is a Marche IGT wine produced in the province of Ascoli Piceno from Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Pecorino grapes, two indigenous grape varieties of the southern area of ​​the Marche region. The Macondo winery is located in one of the most beautiful wine-growing areas historically suited to viticulture.

Bianko 2019, which will be release in October 2021, ferments in barriques for 40 days and follows a maturation period of 18 months, it is not filtered before bottling. The wine has a deep golden colour and it is slightly hazy due to the sediments still present in the wine.

On the nose, the Bianko 2019 has a very complex aromatic bouquet that releases hints of ripe yellow fruit, fresh honey up to elegant notes of bread crust, due to ageing on its fine lees. Aromas of yellow peach and mango combine with hints of vanilla, acacia honey and fine herbs; delicate hints of smoke and flint, perfectly integrated, come up on the final.

The wine expresses a great structure on the palate, with a soft texture perfectly balanced by the acidity that counterbalances the sip and enhances the hints of ripe fruit and fine herbs on the aftertaste.

The Bianko 2019 from the Macondo winery is a wine of great structure and great aromatic complexity that can easily age for 15-20 years. The high acidity and tertiary hints of honey and beeswax will increasingly develop over time and will express themselves in all their elegance, integrating the hints of smoke and flint, thus creating complex tertiary notes. Moreover, the presence of the fine lees will help the wine to preserve itself and prevent oxidation, as well as making the aromatic profile even more complex with more pronounced hints of yeast and bread crust.  Macondo produces just 3000 bottles of Bianko.

 

Molettieri, Taurasi DOCG Vigna Cinque Querce 2013

Aglianico is a variety that magnificently exploits the soils and the microclimates of the Irpinia area by creating wines of great personality and longevity, exactly as the Taurasi Vigna Cinque Querce 2013 by Salvatore Molettieri. His winery is deeply rooted in the Montemarano area, traditionally dedicated to Aglianico breeding. The Cinque Querce 2013 is produced from a single vineyard on clayey soil and is aged for 48 months in barriques and large oak barrels.

The wine has an intense and deep ruby ​​red color and shows a great density in the glass. To the nose unleashes intense and complex aromas of ripe black fruit, such as plums and black currants, combined with balsamic hints of rosemary and eucalyptus. Tertiary hints of licorice, smoke and vanilla are delicate on the finish. The sip is characterized by a soft texture, a powerful structure well balanced by high acidity and tannins integrated into the wine, creating an elegant bitter aftertaste.

“Vigna Cinque Querce 2013”is a wine of a great structure, which can age up to twenty years. The marked acidity of the wine and the well perceptible tannins will protect the wine from oxidation and the richness of the primary hints of black fruit will ensure the keeping of the olfactory complexity. The tertiary hints, in full development, will have time to improve in an even more defined way, integrating with the other fruity hints.

The wine is available only in Magnum format, which ensure even more its balanced ageing.

 

Castello di Perno, Castelletto Barolo DOCG 2016

The Barolo DOCG 2016 by the Castello di Perno winery is a wine of great structure, characterized by an initial ageing in oak casks followed by a prolonged maturation period in concrete tanks, which preserves the elegant primary aromas. The fermentation takes place with only environmental yeasts and the maceration lasts for 35 days.

 

The wine has a ruby ​​red colour with delicate garnet hints. On the nose, the primary aromas of ripe fruit dominate at first: hints of red and black currants, blueberries, cherries and violets. Then elegant hints of dark spices are perceived, such as clove and vanilla, combined with delicate aromas of coffee, forest floor and flint.

The sip is characterized by a marked acidity and a highly fine-grained tannins, characteristics that enhance the fruity hints on the aftertaste. Both the soft texture and the hints of sweet spices are balanced in the mouth, giving a steady aftertaste that enhances the hints of ripe black fruit.

 

Castelleto Barolo DOCG 2016 is a wine of great structure, with high acidity and tannins, which ensure an ageing capacity that exceeds twenty years. With a medium-long ageing period, the tannins will have the opportunity to integrate even better. Moreover, the tertiary hints of coffee and forest floor, now delicate and perceptible on the finish, will become more intense and complex.

 

Mocali, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015

This elegant Brunello di Montalcino DOCG by Mocali winery is a classic example of this style of wine. It has a smooth texture, dark fruits and sweet spices notes, counterbalanced by a vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins. This wine is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes on a typical free-draining soil of the Montalcino area made of galestro and alberese.

 

The wine has a lively deep ruby red colour with garnet hints. The aromatic bouquet is very complex, dominated by the primary aromas of dark fruit and violet flowers. There is a lot sweet spices notes, like cinnamon and cloves, perfectly combined with the primary aromas of black cherries. The developing tertiary aromas of sweet tobacco, forest floor and flint are delicate and are easily recognizable on the aftertaste.

The wine has a smooth texture, dominated by the sweet dark fruits aromas, counterbalanced by a delicate bitter note brought by the tannins on the aftertaste. The sip is perfectly balanced by the vibrant acidity and the high rounded tannins.

 

This Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015 by Mocali can be easily kept in cellar for 20 years or more. Its developing tertiary aromas will become more prominent with its ageing and the aromatic profile will become even more complex. The tannins will increasingly better integrate into the wine, providing the right balance between the smoothness on the mouth and an elegant bitter note on the aftertaste.
