Fontanafredda Vigna La Rosa Barolo DOCG 2016

The Fontanafredda winery was founded in 1858 and its first wine was produced in 1870. We are talking about a winery that has its roots in the long history of the Langhe. The Barolo DOCG “La Rosa” is one of the most important labels of the company, produced from a single vineyard in the Serralunga d’Alba area. The grapes are harvested by hand and a first selection is carried out in the vineyard; subsequently the grapes are brought to the cellar for the winemaking process and the wine undergoes an aging of 12 months in French oak barrels from Allier and continues in big oak barrels for further 12 months.

The wine has a light ruby red color with garnet reflections, the typical color of the Barolo DOCG. On the nose, the aromatic bouquet is very complex and has hints of violet and red fruits combined with the characteristic aromas of vanilla and clove given by the wood, perfectly balanced. The tertiary scents are still developing and are currently characterized by hints of undergrowth and licorice. In the mouth, the wine unleashes its velvety yet typical tannins of the Nebbiolo grape, and an acidity that enhances the hints of fruit in the aftertaste. It has a long persistence and a great balance.

The Barolo DOCG La Rosa of Fontanafredda is a wine of great structure, with a very complex tannic texture and a terrific ageing capacity. In fact, this wine can be left to rest in the cellar for at least 20 years; a long aging is necessary to allow the wine to express its elegant tertiary and spicy aromas, already present in the wine but not yet fully integrated. However, this wine could be consumed right away if you prefer a red wine with hints of red fruit and flowers.

Giuseppe Negro, “Pian Cavallo” Barbaresco DOCG 2017

The Pian Cavallo Barbaresco DOCG by Giuseppe Negro is one of the most important products of the winery. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, coming from some of the best located vineyards of the Barbaresco area, with an ideal south-western exposure. The Pian Cavallo wine undergoes to both a 24-month period of maturation in tonneau and 6-12 months of bottle maturation before its release.

Located in Gallina, province of Cuneo, the Giuseppe Negro winery was founded in 1985 and is now run by the sons of Giuseppe, the founder.

The Pian Cavallo Barbaresco DOCG is a powerful red wine with a pale garnet colour, typical of Nebbiolo. The aromatic profile is complex, yet still not fully developed, made of powerful primary notes of violet, red cherries and redcurrant combined with spicy notes of black pepper and cloves. Even though the wine has undergone a long oak maturation period, the notes of vanilla and smoke are not overwhelming and are perfectly integrated with all the other aromas.

The wine has a smooth texture and high tannins that ensure a right balance and a delicate bitterness on the aftertaste. The vibrant acidity enhances the primary aromas on the palate and ensures a long-lasting finish. Its bottle maturation allow the wine to develop its elegant tertiary aromas, such as forest floor and mushrooms, and to integrate better its powerful high tannins. Thanks to them, and its acidity that will preserve its quality, this wine can be easily kept in the cellar for more than 20 years.

Only 5000 bottles of Pian Cavallo are produced every year.

Casa E. Di Mirafiore Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2016

The Mirafiore winery is located in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most suitable areas for the production of Barolo DOCG and its Barolo DOCG Lazzarito 2016 is one of the most important wines of the winery, produced only in the best vintages, from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The wine ages for two years in medium and large capacity oak barrels, from 2,000 to 14,000 liters; once the barrel ageing period has ended, the wine undergoes a further aging period in the bottle before being placed on the market.

in the glass the Barolo DOCG Lazzarito 2016 has an elegant light garnet red color, typical of the best Barolo DOCG wines. The aromatic bouquet of the wine is very complex, characterized by primary hints of plum and black currant, combined with elegant balsamic notes of licorice root and rosemary. In addition, the tertiary hints of tobacco and mushrooms are already clearly recognizable on the nose and there are further notes of aging such as dry leaves, skin and flint, in full development.

The Barolo DOCG Lazzarito 2016 is a wine of great structure, a high-quality Barolo DOCG that has an extraordinarily ageing potential that exceeds 20 years in the cellar. The marked acidity and the tannic structure allows this wine to be aged for decades improving its profile. Indeed, several years of aging in the bottle will allow the Barolo DOCG Lazzarito 2016 to develop even more complex tertiary aromas and perfectly integrated with the aromas of red and black berry fruit.
