Gianni Gagliardo, Serra Dei Turchi Barolo DOCG 2017
Serra Dei Turchi Barolo DOCG 2017 is a wine of great structure produced by the Gianni Gagliardo winery in La Morra, not far from the village of Barolo. This Barolo DOCG is the flagship of the company, produced each year in 150 bottles, all Magnums.
It is a wine produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Serra Dei Turchi vineyard; the grapes are selected berry by berry from this single Barolo Cru, therefore it is a wine produced from a selection of grapes already belonging to a Barolo Cru. The berry by berry selection takes three days to be carried out: the bunches of grapes are selected within so-called production bubbles that are located within the Serra Dei Turchi vineyard, each bunches of grapes is then analyzed and only the best berries are used to produce the Barolo DOCG Serra Dei Turchi.
Barolo DOCG Serra dei Turchi is a wine of great structure that displays an elegant pale ruby red color with garnet reflections tending towards orange; despite the long aging period it maintains a very bright color.
The nose has an extraordinary complexity that unfolds on tertiary hints of leather, mushrooms and forest floor well complemented by hints of ripe fruits, such as plums and cherries, and dark spices, such as clove and licorice. The wine has final hints of flint and coffee that close the aromatic bouquet very well.
On the palate, it shows very high tannins and acidity that well balance the soft scents and the alcohol content, but above all that ensure the great aging potential of this wine. On the palate, the fruity aromas become well perceptible and combine very well with hints of dark spices on the aftertaste.
The Barolo DOCG Serra Dei Turchi produced by the Gianni Gagliardo company is a wine of great complexity and aromatic intensity that has undergone an aging period of 32 months in small oak barrels of 228 liters used six other times before, in order to obtain a product that is able to perfectly represent the terroir from which the grapes come.
This wine has an aging potential of over 20 years, capable of even reaching 30 years of aging. The tannic structure and high acidity will allow the wine to preserve itself over time and develop even more tertiary hints of coffee, licorice, mushrooms and balsamic notes of great elegance.
