Carnasciale, “Il Caberlot” 2018 Magnum
The Caberlot grape is thought to be a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This wine is a unique Tuscan IGT and unconventionally represents the typical characteristics of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. Only 3,500 magnum bottles of Caberlot are produced each year, numbered by hand by Bettina, the wife of the late owner Wolf Rogosky, and mother of Moritz, who today runs the winery (pictured).
The wine is matured in French oak barrels for 18 months and then it is bottled only in magnum sized bottles.
The wine has a deep ruby red colour with light garnet hints. The deepness of the colour of the wine already suggests its powerful structure. The nose displays hints of ripe fruit and dark fruit jam, sweet spices and some developing tertiary notes of hay and earth floor. The palate is powerful, structured and perfectly balanced by the vibrant acidity. The high tannins are rounded and they provide a good balance to the smooth texture of the wine on the palate.
The Caberlot Magnum 2018 can easily age for 20 years or more. In fact, its high acidity and high tannins will provide protection during a long ageing and the wine will better integrate all its components. Moreover, the magnum bottle will decrease the rate of oxidation, ensuring a good and even ageing process.
The tertiary aromas of the wine will also develop into elegant notes of mushroom, dried herbs, dark spices like cloves and dried leaves.
